About us
Covering both the East and West Midlands, the Nuclear Institute Midlands Branch is keen to expand and grow its membership with those at all stages of their career.
Our branch area is home to major nuclear organisations including Rolls Royce (energy and defence divisions), Ansaldo Nuclear, plus research and development hubs at the University of Sheffield & Nuclear AMRC. The region has also been selected to host the STEP fusion energy programme at West Burton in Nottinghamshire.
Run by a committee of dedicated volunteers, the branch runs a broad range of events, lectures and visits throughout the year in response to the demands of the blossoming regional nuclear community.
What we do
The Midlands Branch helps to promote the aims of the Nuclear Institute through an ongoing programme of educational, networking and social events, including:
- Nuclear-specific lectures, seminars and webinars
- Technical tours and visits
- Annual Speaking Competition in collaboration with the Young Generation Network
- Networking events for the regional nuclear community
- Outreach and public engagement activities such as the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham
- The Midlands Branch Annual Dinner
Evening lectures are generally run from September through to April, and technical visits are arranged where possible to broaden members’ nuclear experience. Both events tend to be followed by a social or networking event.
We run membership workshops, suitable for both new members and those pursuing the Nuclear Delta and professional registration. New members are always welcome, and if you’re in the area, please get in touch; we’re a friendly bunch and always glad to welcome new faces!
Get involved
Involvement with our branch activity provides an excellent opportunity to build your networks within the nuclear industry and gain evidence to support applications for professional registration.
