The Nuclear Institute North East Branch attracted a record number of synopsis entries at this year’s Young Generation (YGN) presentation competition last month (21 March). Hosted at Jacobs’ office in Stockton-on-Tees and sponsored by Jacobs, PDL Solutions, Turnbull and Scott, K Home International and EDF Energy, the competition final welcomed more than 40 people.
YGN Presentation Competition Sponsors and Finalists
Six presentation and two poster entry finalists were shortlisted from 11 entries. The presentation finalists included Jacobs’ Robert Whitehead with ‘An ageing nuclear workforce – what should be done to combat it?’; Jacobs’ Robert Lucas - ‘A Vision for the Future’; PDL Solutions’ Andrew Christie who presented ‘A Nuclear First Impression’; EDF Energy’s Oliver Riddle with ‘Out of sight, but not out of mind’; and EDF Energy’s James Sherman with ‘SMRs – Saviour of Multiple Industries.’ Poster finalists included EDF Energy’s Charlotte McKenna with ‘The Case for Geological Disposal Facilities (GDF’s)’ and Jacobs’ Joshua Cundliffe with ‘The use of LED lighting in place of existing metal halide approved design for in-cell lighting.’ Judges were impressed the finalists’ knowledge of their topic, presentation skills and skills in insightfully fielding audience questions.
Congratulations to Oliver Riddle winning the presentation competition (first prize: £500), with Andrew Christie in second place (second place prize: £250), followed by Robert Whitehead winning third-place prize (third place prize: £100). Charlotte McKenna won the poster competition (poster competition prize: £50). Oliver Riddle will now be entering the YGN National Speaking Competition Final in the Autumn 2018. Good luck Oliver, we are all wishing you the best!
