About us
The North West region has been the centre of nuclear power station design and construction for over 70 years. Its association with nuclear began with the founding of the Department of Atomic Energy (DATEN) design and construction office at Risley which under the directorship of Sir Christopher Hinton was tasked with the design and construction of Calder Hall Power Station.
Our branch area is home to major nuclear hubs of activity in Manchester and Warrington, plus Heysham Power Station in Morecambe, Lancashire. Branch members are drawn from major organisations based in the region including Westinghouse, Urenco, Amentum UK and National Nuclear Laboratory.
Run by a committee of dedicated volunteers, the branch runs a broad range of events, lectures and visits throughout the year in response to the demands of the blossoming regional nuclear community. Our aims are to connect you with others in the sector, facilitate continued learning and give you opportunities to get involved in our activities.

- Improve public perception and understanding of nuclear technologies
This network includes the Universities of: Manchester, Lancaster, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds and Central Lancashire (UCLan).
If you represent a company or university in the North West that is interested in joining the network, please get in touch with Dr Antonio Di Buono
