About us
The Western Branch area, covering Gloucestershire all the way down to Cornwall, is one of the key centres of the nuclear industry in the UK and one where sector activity is rapidly growing. This includes Hinkley Point C in Somerset, the only current nuclear new build site in the country.
Our branch area is also home to major nuclear organisations including EDF, Nuclear Restoration Services, Amentum UK and AtkinsRéalis, plus research and development hubs at National Nuclear Laboratory and the University of Bristol.
Run by a committee of dedicated volunteers, the branch runs a broad range of events, lectures and visits throughout the year in response to the demands of the blossoming regional nuclear community.
What we do
The Western Branch helps to promote the aims of the Nuclear Institute through an ongoing programme of educational, networking and social events, including:
- Nuclear-specific lectures, seminars and webinars
- Technical tours and visits
- Annual Speaking Competition in collaboration with the Young Generation Network
- Networking events for the regional nuclear community
- Outreach and public engagement activities such as the Cheltenham Science Festival
- The Western Branch Annual Dinner
