Central England: YGN tour of JET at UKAEA Culham
This has been fully booked up
The UK Atomic Energy Authority has extended a joint invitation to the NI Central England Branch and IMechE Wessex branch for our Early Careers members to visit UKAEA’s Culham Campus. You’ll see in person some of the amazing work the UKAEA is doing to develop sustainable fusion energy.
The visit will include an introductory talk covering the basics of fusion energy, followed by the opportunity for more technical discussion, then a tour of the world’s largest fusion experiment: the world record-breaking JET tokamak along with the remote handling facilities used to maintain and now begin decommissioning it. The tour will be led by engineers, scientists and technicians who are currently working on the experiments – so you get a genuine insight into what it’s like to work in fusion, and have the opportunity to directly ask the passionate researchers anything about their work at UKAEA. There will also be an opportunity for networking with your fellow Nuclear Institute and IMechE members.
