North East Branch seminar: The Future of Nuclear Power at Hartlepool
‘The nuclear power plant at Hartlepool has been quietly, cleanly, relentlessly generating electricity and has been a cornerstone of the local economy for decades. It is scheduled to shut down in 2026 but there is still currently concern with the UK generating capacity.
The government is aiming for 24GW of new nuclear by 2050. The government will decide as to whether to further extend the life of the station and whether a new plant will be built. However, Mark Lees, the Station Director will talk about current EDF plans and Steve Coates of X-Energy will describe their technology and why it fits so well with the site at Hartlepool.
The contribution of new nuclear power plant to Net Zero should be more than power generation. This event will be of interest to everyone in the North East involved with the Nuclear Industry, young people who could seek a career in nuclear and everybody in general with an interest in the North East economy.
