On 31st May 2016, seven graduates from across industry participated in the Scotland Branch YGN Speaking Competition in Glasgow. A variety of topics were covered, such as ‘Does Size Really Matter’, a presentation on the applicability of small modular reactors in the UK; ‘Nature’s Nuclear Reactors’, an overview of the lifecycle of stars, and ‘Is CCS the Answer to Industrial CO2 Emissions?’, a discussion on the need for carbon capture and storage in the UK.
Competing against strong competition, the winner was Euan Mackenzie of Amec Foster Wheeler, with a presentation on ‘Transferable Management Decisions – the Leicester City Case Study’, which compared Leicester City Football Club’s 2016 Premier League win with the strategic and tactical decisions required in successful project management. Euan will go on to compete in the National YGN Speaking Competition in Manchester in September.
Special thanks to Doosan Babcock for sponsoring the prizes and Amec Foster Wheeler for hosting this successful and interesting event.
