The Independent Oversight Working Group (IOWG), in partnership with the Nuclear Institute (NI), has established a competency scheme to provide professional recognition for Independent Oversight (IO) professionals. This marks the first UK-wide framework of its kind, enabling individuals working in the nuclear industry’s Independent Oversight field to achieve recognised professional status.
The Independent Oversight competency framework aligns with the NI’s Nuclear Professionalism Standard. Those specialising in Independent Oversight can now achieve Member (MNucI) or Fellow (FNucI) of the Nuclear Institute, with additional recognition as a Nuclear Independent Oversight Professional (NIOP).
“We are delighted to have partnered with the Independent Oversight Working Group to support Independent Oversight professionals in receiving well-deserved recognition for their contributions,”
“This collaboration underscores the vital role of Independent Oversight in maintaining the highest standards of safety and performance in the nuclear industry.” said Cynthia Hearing, NI’s Membership and Business Development Director.
“This recognition represents a major step forward for Independent Oversight professionals,” said Dr Mark Edmiston NIOP FNucI, Chair of the IOWG.
It highlights the importance of Independent Oversight as a critical function within the nuclear industry and supports consistent excellence across the sector.
