In March, eighteen teams of finalists of the 2016 Spark! Competition were mentored by this year’s judging panel, which this year includes Miranda Kirschel, WiN UK President. EDF and EY, among other British and French companies supported the event.
The Spark! Competition is a Franco-British nuclear community award contest for students and young professionals under the age of 29. The Workshop, held in March, gave the finalists the opportunity to get advice from senior nuclear representatives to take forward to the final stage. Each of the groups must now prepare a 5,000 word paper on the subject, ‘The Nuclear Fuel Cycle in 2040: The Challenges and Solutions’ which the jury will then select the three prize winners. The prizes will be awarded at the World Nuclear Association in Paris on 30 June by Jean Bernard Levy, Chairman and CEO of EDF.
Miranda said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to judge this competition. It highlights the superb young talent we have in the nuclear industry across a breadth of disciplines and from meeting the teams of finalists, I think we’re going to have a very tough decision to make.”
