The Society of the Environment has approved the NI’s application to award Chartered Environmentalist and Registered Environmental Technician. Becoming a CEnv or REnvTech helps you to stand out from the crowd, showcase competence to your employer, make a difference and network with other environmental professionals. It is a mark of the skill with which you apply environmental considerations to your work, regardless of your job role or industry sector.
This is a very important addition to the existing external licences we hold from the Engineering Council and Science Council and we would encourage existing members to consider if these titles might apply to them.

The NI is very pleased to be able to add CEnv and REnvTech to its suite of professional titles which will enable our members to demonstrate their environmental professionalism as well as in engineering and science which we already offer. Combined with our own professional grades that assess a range of nuclear specialisms it means that the nuclear industry can continue to put skills and the development of people at the forefront of our plans for a nuclear future which will be critical to attaining the goals of the Nuclear Sector Deal.

I’m delighted that the importance of environmental professionalism within the nuclear industry has been recognised in this way. Environmental professionals work across all parts of our industry, amongst other things enabling nuclear energy to play a part in addressing the challenges of climate change, delivering the decommissioning and clean-up of our legacy sites, and helping ensure the safe, sustainable management of radioactive wastes. As a Chartered Environmentalist this qualification has helped me structure my professional development against the bigger picture of sustainable environmental protection, allowing me to benchmark my level of professionalism against those in other sectors. I look forward to seeing my colleagues in all parts of the nuclear industry measuring and demonstrating their skills against the CEnv competences and encouraging their technician colleagues towards REnvTech.
