SMR Special Interest Group

The purpose of the Small Modular Reactor Special Interest Group (SMR SIG) is to support the development and deployment of small modular reactors, being any nuclear reactor technology to be deployed at sub-gigawatt scales with a modular build approach, in the UK.

The SMR SIG will bring together relevant experts and interested parties to develop thought leadership on matters within its scope of interest. In this way, the SIG will seek to provide advice to both the public and private sectors on how to maximise the potential of SMRs and overcome the associated challenges.

Scope of Interest

In support of its purpose, the SMR SIG will promote consideration of the following aspects of SMR deployment, to the extent that they present differentiated opportunities for SMRs:

  • Build methodology;
  • Licensing;
  • Financing;
  • Co-generation;
  • Fleet operation; and
  • International deployment.

If you would like to become a member of this group and subscribe to the SMR SIG mailing list, please email the SIG Chair below, indicating your interest level with a brief summary of your expertise and experience, plus advising if you are currently a member of the Nuclear Institute.
