The Nuclear Institute Young Person Speaking Competitions return for 2016 with the first regional competition organised by the NI North West Branch and the NI YGN set to take place on Tuesday, 1 March, following the NI YGN North West Exhibition and Networking event.
The NI Young Person Speaking Competitions aim to give young members of the nuclear sector the opportunity to gain valuable experience practicing communication skills in front of a live audience. Emphasis is placed on presentation rather than the written word and the ability to handle questions from the audience.
The speaking competition consists of eight regional competitions hosted by the regional branches of the NI Branch Network and the Grand Final hosted by the NI Young Generation Network (YGN). The speaking competitions are open to everyone under the age of 37 at the time of the competition and are open to members and non-members of the NI and offer an excellent opportunity for networking.
The best three speakers from each regional competition will receive prizes sponsored by the NI Branches with the overall winners, as chosen by a panel of judges, having the opportunity to go forward and take part in the national NI YGN Speaking Competition Grand Final to be held at DWF LLP Manchester on 29 September 2016.
The Subject Matter
For the 2016 speaking competitions entrants are encouraged to present a talk on:
"Any nuclear, energy or environmental subject, whether technical, social or personal".
The topic is really up to you: it may relate to energy generation or supply and could include environmental or community considerations etc. We hope that this wide scope will encourage those of you new to, or thinking of starting a career in the nuclear industry, to have a go.
