50-50 Male & Female Finalists
The UK Nuclear Skills Awards has become an established event on the nuclear calendar, now in its eighth year the event has gone from strength to strength.
Women in Nuclear UK have welcomed the announcement from NSAN that this year across the Apprentice, Graduate and FD/HND category finalists there is a 50-50 male/female split.
The winners will be announced at the UK Nuclear Skills Awards Dinner on the 10th March in Manchester where members will receive a year's membership of the Nuclear Institute.
Commenting on the news that the finalists for the UK Nuclear Skills Awards are split evenly 50-50. , Miranda Kirschel, President Women in Nuclear UK, said:
“The Skills Awards are a key part of the nuclear industry calendar and I’m delighted to see the number of female nominations grow over the years. Through promoting the nominees and female category winners, it will provide a great role model for young girls to see the nuclear sector is somewhere they can work.”
Tom Samson, CEO of the event’s main sponsor NuGen, commented:
“This is very welcome news for our industry, and an example of why NuGen is delighted to be sponsoring the Skills Awards. As a new company, we have the opportunity to lead from the front when recruiting nuclear professionals and staff new to the sector – we are blind to gender bias, colour or creed. To put it simply, NuGen wants the best people to deliver Moorside.”
Jean Llewellyn CEO of the National Skills Academy Nuclear commented;
“In just 8 years of the Skills Awards being established it is very encouraging to see the growth in applications for females working in nuclear. When the awards first started we had one or two applications nominating females, the number has grown each year and we are very delighted to see an equal number of males and females represented as finalists in 2016. This demonstrates how diversity is improving across the nuclear industry and this will really help address the sector’s skills challenges of the future.”
