Nuclear Institute appoints John Warden as CEO

The Nuclear Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of John Warden as Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Institute following the resignation of Elaine Boyes, after three years as Executive Secretary, earlier this year. John will be in post from February 2015.

The Institute is currently undergoing strategic developments to improve its role in supporting professionals in the nuclear industry. Tim Chittenden welcomed John to the headquarters team where his experience of the UK nuclear industry will be of great value in leading the Institute forward to achieve its vision of becoming the foremost Institute for all professionals in the nuclear sector.

John is a Fellow of the Nuclear Institute, a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Physicist. He began his nuclear career in the Royal Navy as a submarine PWR operator and maintainer, taught reactor physics to RN and civilian staff, and was supervisor and engineer of the RN’s training reactor, JASON.  He has since held a number of senior positions in defence and industry, and has lectured and provided consultancy services to the UK civil nuclear sector. John joins the NI from the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board where he is Nuclear Sector Manager.

Following his appointment as Institute CEO, John said: “The Nuclear Institute is one of the key organisations in the nuclear industry and is well positioned to lead the continued development of nuclear professionalism in the UK and globally. The Institute’s members, trustees, volunteers and staff are all dedicated to the aims of the Institute I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with them.”

Tim Chittenden thanked Tony Lawrence for his excellent contribution to the Nuclear Institute during his period as Interim CEO. During this time he has made many improvements to the Institute’s administration and management arrangements and laid the foundations for future strategic development.  On behalf of the NI Tim wished Tony well in his future career and looked forward to continuing to work with him as a volunteer in support of the Institute.

The Nuclear Institute is the UK membership organisation for nuclear professionals. We maintain the standards of professionalism in the nuclear sector through our code of conduct and the Nuclear Delta. Of most importance to us is the education and training of nuclear professionals, as well as the understanding of the nuclear industry from the wider public. As a learned society we also act as the independent voice of the sector.

We are a growing body that works though local UK branches, the regional Young Generation Network (YGN), Special Interest Groups and operational committees. The Institute welcomes company members and partners who are key in supporting development and standards in the nuclear sector by demonstrating their commitment to both the industry and professional development.
